Emergency Shelter

“I always felt really safe at the Crisis Shelter. I felt nothing would happen to us there. I remember how I would take my brother and sister to play in the child care room – I wanted them to feel safe too.”

Our Safe Houses provide emergency housing for men, women, and children on a 24-hour, 7 days a week basis for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault victims to prevent further partner and child abuse. The advocates assist in establishing, or re-establishing, clients and their children with housing, schooling, job training and employment. Peer counseling groups are held for both women and children. Advocacy is provided with other agencies, on behalf of domestic violence and sexual assault victims at hospitals, police agencies and outside agencies in a confidential manner.

Almost half of domestic violence victims are hesitant to leave their situation because it would mean leaving their companion pet behind.  In Mariposa County, they don’t have to.  Mountain Crisis Services has made it possible for victims and their pet to leave their abusive situation and to obtain a safe haven for all.  If you need help leaving an abusive situation call 1-888-966-2350.
